Sound Surround
Sound Surround was an installation for the 2024 Zipperfest arts festival. Following the festival's mission of bringing people together and combatting social isolation, this interactive installation encouraged participants to cooperate in creating musical compositions using four sound stations positioned in the middle of the festival.
Warning Stones
Referencing the Czech Hunger Stones, Japanese Tsunami Stones, and the proposed Long Term Nuclear Waste Warning Messages (as well as common gravestones), these sculptural pieces are built to represent the lithic ways in which humanity has sent messages of warning and mourning up from the past. Using light, temporary materials, the resultant stone of these works resides in the viewer’s mind as a cautionary message of the dangers that human industry poses to the environment and our collective future.
A Call Away is a recurring interactive installation created for Zipperfest, an arts festival in Columbia, Missouri whose mission is to combat social isolation through community arts events. In the piece, three landline telephones are wired together such that when one was taken off the hook, the others ring and can be answered. Participants are encouraged to pick up the receiver to place a call or answer when the phone rings and start a conversation either with provided prompts or with questions of their own. By placing the telephones at a distance across the festival, each participant becomes an anonymous voice allowing conversations to be held between people who may have never spoken otherwise.
